MARS units consist of 4 commercial off-the-shelf standard STD bus circuit boards including: a CPU board with Government furnished firmware, an A/D converter, a Counter/Timer, and Serial I/O. And an additional 4 custom manufactured circuit boards with associated plug-in modules that employ a custom bus as a superset of the standard STD bus. Custom circuit boards include: a Power Supply board with 5 types of voltage modules, an RS232/RS422 circuit card with plug-in modem module, and 2 Analog/Counter cards for sensor signal conditioning with 7 types of plug-in signal conditioning modules. Both commercial off-the-shelf circuit boards and custom circuit boards reside in a passive backplane. The backplane with circuit boards, a NESDIS certified GOES transmitter, a 40 Watt amplifier, and cable/wire runs are mounted in a NEMA style environmental enclosure with RFI/EMI protection. MARS operating temperatures from - 40 degrees C to + 50 degrees C. Specific size requirements and interface compatibility requirements. One-year warranty; first article acceptance test required.
