J -- MARTIN MARIETTA PYROTECHNIC INITIATOR CONTROLLER CONTRACT EXTENSION SOL 9BP295120P DUE 051595 POC MARGARET HOWE, Tel:713-483-8217 Contracting Officer:MARIANNE RUIZ, Tel:713-483-8528 NASA/Johnson Space Center intends to solicit and negotiate with only one responsible source - Martin Marietta Technologies, Inc., Denver, CO - under authority of FAR 6.302, for a contract extension of support services for the repair, maintenance, and engineering support of Pyrotechnic Initiator Controllers (PIC's). The Systems Engineering Office of the Engineering Directorate requires support for the maintenance and support of PIC resources for use in the Space Shuttle Program. Martin Marietta is the original designer and developer of the PIC, as well as the incumbent on the current contract. The proposed one-year contract extension will be supported by a Justification for Other than Full and Open Competition. Certification of testing equipment and of personnel qualified to perform the work is a requirement; and Martin Marietta is currently the only contractor certified to perform PIC repair, maintenance, and engineering support. A modification for a 12-month extenstion is scheduled to be issued on or about May 15. Interested persons may identify their interests and capability to respond to the requirements or submit proposals. All proposals submitted within 15 days after the date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No contract will be awarded on the basis of the responses received from this notice, since this notice cannot be considered a formal solicitation document. See Note 22. (0121)
