Mail Stop 500-305, Albert K. Owen, Project Manager, (216) 433-5895, who
may be contacted at Mail Stop 77-12. NASA Lewis Research Center is
planning a procurement in the area of the T55-L-712 Engine Development.
This proposed procurement is intended to focus on two separate test
cell entries of the selected contractor's supplied T55-L-712
axial-centrifugal rig. The entries will be as follows: (1) a system
identification experiment and (2) an active compressor control
optimization/demonstration. The first test entry experiment is designed
to quantify the response of the T55-L-712 compression system with a two
dimensional boundary condition variations induced upstream in the
compressor using eight air jet ejectors, having equal circumferential
spacing. The second test entry experiment will optimize the design and
operation of the active compressor stability enhancement system, which
will be designed as a direct result of information obtained from the
first entry test experiment. These air jet ejectors and the valves that
will control the air are the same ejectors and valves that will be used
to demonstrate active compressor stability enhancement on this
rig/engine. The successful contractor shall have all compressor and rig
hardware on-hand. The rig requires nearly thirty (30) pounds of air per
second, run at almost 20,000 rpm and has a pressure ratio approaching
10:1. In addition, the successful contractor must be capable of
providing the support and ancillary equipment and facilities required
to perform these tests. The deliverable item will be a final report,
which will describe all of the results of this technical effort. The
etimated period of performance is twenty-four (24) months. The date set
for receipt of proposals is approximate. All interested parties may
submit information for evaluation of their R&D capabilities to the
above Project Manager prior to the closing date of this synopsis. See
