The USDA Food and Consumer Service anticipates issuing a competitive procurement for advisory and assistance services to conduct a mail survey of a nationally representative sample of public schools participating in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. This procurement is scheduled for release in late May or early June. The survey will be performed during the 1996/97 school year. Information will be collected on the characteristics of the school food service operation as well as detailed information about all foods offered to students participating in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program during a specified target school week. Data collected will be used to produce national estimates of the nutrient content of meals offered in these programs. All tasks will be completed by December 31, 1997. The estimated level of effort for this project is 5-6 person years over a 27 month period.
