17 -- PROCUREMENT FOR THE MANUFACTURE, TEST AND DELIVERY OF NASA STANDA RD INITIATORS (NSI). SOL 9BE1313527P DUE 061495 POC ANTONIO HUMPHREYS, Tel:713-483-8518 Contracting Officer:YOLANDE HARDEN, Tel:713-483-9953 NASA Johnson Space Center has a requirement for the manufacture, test and delivery NASA Standard Initiators Type-1 (NSI-1). The NSI-1 is a consum able pyrotechnic device used by the Shuttle and other Agency programs and the Department of Defense. --The NSI-1's shall be manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the statement of work and the NASA Standard Initiator Design and Performa nce Specification (SKD26100066). --NASA requires the delivery of 5000 initiators under the contract. --NASA requires delivery of the units to Kennedy Space Center. --NASA requires delivery of the units no later than July 1996. --See numbered Note 22. --NASA intends to solicit from Hi-Shear Technology Corp. for this procureme nt. There are currently two vendors qualified to produce flight certifie d NSI's. Another company is currently undergoing qualification procedures in an effort to become a qualified source for the production of NSI's. This procurement is necessary to maintain a flight inventory of NSI's whi ch is capable of satisfying the strong demand for the units.
