The USDA, Food and Consumer Service (FCS) intends to issue a competitive procurement for advisory and assistance services to conduct an analytic study of data from the Food Security Supplement to the April 1995 Current Population Survey of the U.S. Bureau of the Census. This project will carry out the complex data analysis procedures required to construct measurement scales and measures of food insecurity and hunger from the new data provided by the Census Bureau; to use these measures to derive estimates of the prevalence of these conditions within the U.S. population; to prepare two major reports of the findings (a Final Summary Report and a Final Technical Report); and to determine and recommend core sets of the key indicator variables needed for future use in deriving scaled food-security conditions and more specialized or smaller surveys at national, State, and local levels. The basic tasks leading to preparation of the two final reports will be completed by March 7, 1996; all tasks will be completed by October 31, 1996.
