R -- AUTOMATED SURFACE OBSERVING SYSTEM (ASOS) COOPERATORS WEATHER OBSERVATIONS AND RELATED SERVICES, NWS OFFICE, GREATER ROCKFORD AIRPORT, ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS SOL 51WCNW506071PW DUE 062795 POC Patsy Willins (816) 426-6823 extension 230 The National Weather Service plans to issue a solicitation to perform the augmentation of the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS), backup of essential elements of the ASOS and the data continuity program at the National Weather Service (NWS) Office, Federal Facilities Building, Greater Rockford Airport, Rockford, Illinois. Initially, the Contractor will be required to provide NWS certified ASOS cooperators to augment and backup essential elements of ASOS on a part-time basis, 8 hours daily, Monday through Friday, midnight to 8 am; and 16 hours on Saturdays and Sundays from midnight to 8am and 4pm to midnight. Beginning March 1, 1996, the contract will require continuous augmentation on a 24-hour basis, seven (7) days a week. The augmenter program consists of manually adding data to an automated surface weather observation that is beyond the observing capability of ASOS. The backup program consists of evaluating and reporting data normally evaluated and reported by ASOS. The data continuity program consists of recording data at each six-hourly observation (midnight, 6 AM, noon, 6 PM). The base period of performance is August 1, 1995 through September 30, 1995. The contract will contain options to extend performance for two consecutive 12-month periods. The total duration of the contract shall not exceed Twenty-six months.
