COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 10,1995 PSA#1343COMMERCE DEPARTMENT SPONSORS ENVIRONMENT TECHNOLOGIES MISSION TO
ARGENTINA AND BRAZIL The U.S. Department of Commerce is inviting U.S.
firms to participate in an Environmental Technologies Technical Seminar
Mission to Buenos Aires, Argentina and Sao Paulo, Brazil, August 28 -
September 1, 1995. The Mission's objective is to introduce qualified
U.S. environmental companies to those in-country entities with the
strongest immediate need for U.S. environmental goods and services. The
first day of the Technical Seminar Mission will allow U.S. companies to
explain and demonstrate the advantages of their product or service to
an audience of multi-national and domestic firms in Argentina and
Brazil. On the second day, one-on-one appointments between U.S. firms
and audience members will allow for a more specific dialogue on project
opportunities. Both Argentina and Brazil are considered ``Big Emerging
Markets'' by the U.S. Department of Commerce with environmental
service and equipment needs of $2.8 billion and $19 billion
respectively over the next 10 years. In the short run, MNCs and larger
domestic firms will be among the first to require and implement
pollution control measures. A solid entrance into the market with these
clients will ensure additional medium and long-run opportunities as
well. Participants will be expected to relate their technical
presentations to the benefits of early and/or incremental pollution
control given the inevitability of rising compliance costs as
regulations are fully enforced, the potential public relations benefits
of timely compliance, and efficiency-related cost savings.
Participation costs $3800 and is limited and on a first-come,
first-served basis. Delegation members must sign-up no later than June
15, 1995. For additional information, contact Kristine Bretl, Office
