A -- A -- DESIGN/TESTING OF ADVANCED LIGHTWEIGHT FUSELAGE ON F/A-18E/F POC Contact, Duane Schatz, Phone (703)604-6100 Engineering analyses, designs, and demonstrations to define and validate affordable, lightweight airframe technologies for the mid-fuselage and wing aircraft structure that exceed current generation F/A-18E/F cost, weight and performance levels for a carrier suitable aircraft. The effort will demonstrate technology leading to airframe weight and cost reductions for the future Joint Advanced Strike Technology (JAST) aircraft. This technology demonstration effort is based on the F/A-18E/F aircraft. This effort is a follow-on effort to the initial Advanced Lightweight Aircraft Fuselage Structure (ALAFS) order issued to McDonnell Douglas Aerospace (MDA) on 28 October 1994. This effort will build on the efforts currently in process and will include fabrication of critical structural elements, manufacturing process verification components, and the fabrication and testing of a full scale test article. This effort will be incrementally funded over fiscal years (FY) 1996 through FY 1999. MDA is the only source having the technical expertise, and technical data required to perform the detailed engineering analyses and tests needed to determine the benefits and payoffs for technology insertion on the baseline F/A-18E/F configuration. It is anticipated that award will be made via a delivery order to an existing basic ordering agreement (BOA). See note No. 22 - NAVAIR Synopsis No. 40066-95. (0129)
