Agency for International Development (USAID), Population, Health and
Nutrition Center invites applications for a competitively awarded
cooperative agreement to be funded under the Improving the Health and
Well-being of Young Adults Program (YAP). The purpose of this program
is to help reduce death and illness among young adults, through (1) the
promotion of responsible health behavior and (2) delaying exposure to
sexual activity and related incidence of sexually transmitted diseases,
including HIV/AIDS, and high risk pregnancies. The program will also
promote positive health behaviors including breastfeeding and child
spacing to improve both the health of the mother and child survival.
The recipient awarded the cooperative agreement should have an
established reputation in this area. To help identify potential
collaborators on applications, a list of all organizations requesting
the RFA at printing time will be sent with the RFA. By providing the
list, USAID does not endorse the organizations listed as being capable
of implementing the activity, nor does USAID verify the claimed status
of the organizations. Applicants who submit their name and mailing
address by letter or facsimile (no phone requests will be accepted)
will receive Request for Application (RFA) No. M/OP/A/P-95-008. The
facsimile number for submitting name/address is 703-875-1107; please
include the RFA number and direct request to the POC named above. A
Request for Applications will be issued not less than 15 days after
publication of this synopsis, with a closing date for receipt of
applications approximately 45 days after issuance. Additionally, this
