Laboratory, Directorate of Contracting, Kirtland AFB, NM, requires the
purchase of: 1) 2.5 Gbps Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Switch, Fore
Systems, Inc., Model ASX-200, P/N ASX-200, or equal. The switch
includes a switch chassis, Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC)
engine control processor, ForeThought Internetworking software, one (1)
switch module w/four (4) network module slots; 2) Multimode fiber TAXI
Network Module for ASX-200 Switch, six (6) 100 Mbits/sec ATM
connections, Fore Systems Model NM-TAXI, P/N NM-6/100MMB, or equal; 3)
SONET OC-3c Network Module for ASX-200 Switch, Four (4) 155 Mbps
Multimode Fiber ports - SC(2.3.1), Fore Systems, Inc. Model NM-155, P/N
NM-4/155MMSCB, or equal; 4) DS-3 Network Module for ASX-200 Switch, two
(2) 45 Mbits/sec ATM Connections, Fore Systems, Inc. Model NM-2DS3, P/N
NM-2DS3B, or equal. The minimum specifications for items 1-4 listed
above are as follows: Item 1) 2.5 Gbits/sec ATM Switch, RISC engine
control processor, Unix operating system, compatible to SUN OS software
release 4.1.3F, one switch module with 4 network module slots, one
ethernet port, two serial interface ports, signaling protocol capable
of establishing Switched Virtual Circuits dynamically. Compatible to
FORE Systems Simple Protocol for ATM Network Signaling (SPANS),
Standard 19 inch vertical rack mounting capability, 120/240 volts AC
switchable; Item 2) Multimode Fiber Transparent Asynchronous
Transmitter Receiver Interface (TAXI) network module for ATM switch,
six port 100 Mbits/sec; Item 3) Synchronous Optical Network (SONET)
OC-3c Network Module for ATM Switch, four (4) 155 Mbits/sec Multimode
fiber ports, SC connectors; Item 4) Digital Standard DS-3 Network
Module for ATM Switch, two 44.736 Mbits/sec ports. Firms proposing on
an ''or equal'' item shall submit technical documentation, brochures,
schematics, etc, so that the item can be evaluated for compliance with
the specifications. Solicitation for this requirement will be issued
on or about 12 Jun 95 and will close 30 days thereafter. The Government
reserves the right to consider this acquisition for the 8(a) program,
small disadvantaged business set-aside, small business set-aside,
historically black colleges and universities, or minority institutions
set-aside based upon responses to this synopsis. Foreign-owned firms
will not be precluded from participating on this acquisition. Firms
responding to this synopsis should indicate whether they fall into

ombudsman has been appointed to hear concerns from offerors or
potential offerors during the proposal development phase of this
acquisition. The purpose of the ombudsman is to receive and communicate
