COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 12,1995 PSA#1345NETHERLANDS: NEW FOODSTUFFS The following notification has been
received in Gatt document TBT/Notification G/95.113 dated 27 April
1995. 1. Member to Agreement notifying: Netherlands if applicable, name
of local government involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2). 2. Agency
responsible: Ministry of Public Health, Welfare and Sports. 3. Notified
under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products covered (HS or CCCN where applicable,
otherwise national tariff heading. ICS numbers may be provided in
addition, where applicable): New Foodstuffs. 5. Title and number of
pages of the notified document: Draft Food and Drugs Act order on New
Foodstuffs (6 pages). 6. Description of Content: The aim of the order
is to replace the Food and Drugs Act regulation on New Foodstuffs. This
regulation was only valid for a short period of time (two years) and
functionated as an interim measure in the absence of EC Legislation.
Since EC regulations have still not been drafted hitherto, the
emergency regulation is to be replaced by an order in council. The
latter shall be adjusted as soon as EC Legislation enters into force.
7. Objective and rationale: Like the above-mentioned emergency measure,
the aim of the order is to protect public health. 8. Relevant
documents: Food and Drugs Act regulation on New Foodstuffs. 9. Proposed
date of adoption and entry into force: 28 July 1995. 10. Final date for
