Lewis, Contracting Officer, (303) 236-5900 x321 The U.S. Geological Survey, Water Resource Division, National Water Quality Laboratory has a requirement for analytical services for tritium/helium-3 age dating of ground water which includes (1) mass- spectrometric determination of total dissolved helium gas, total dissolved neon gas, and the isotope ratio, 3He/4He of total dissolved helium gas; and (2) determination of dissolved tritium by measurement of the amount of the isotope helium-3 produced by tritium decay in the sample during a fixed period of time (helium-3 ingrowth method). Water samples for helium isotopic measurements are collected in copper tubes with clamps which shall be provided by the contractor. The analyses require a dedicated mass spectrometer for helium isotope analyses and a dedicated mass spectrometer for tritium measurements by the helium-3 ingrowth method. The required precision for helium-3 determination is +/-0.2%. Tritium shall be determined within 2% and with a detection limit of 0.005 Tritium Units. This is a requirements type contract. Performance period is for a basic year plus two one-year options for a total of three years. Delivery of data is F.O.B. destination, Arvada, Colorado 80002.
