The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Newport, RI
anticipates a Firm Fixed Price (Supply) contract for the acquisition of
a Massive Optical Disk Storage System on a Brand Name Or Equal basis:
0001 Documents Imaging Systems Corporation (DISC), Model Number D1050-2
Optical Jukebox, 1 each. 0002 Installation of the Optical Jukebox at
NUWC Detachment, New London, CT. 0003 One-year Warranty, including
on-site service (next day response time) for the Optical Jukebox. 0004
1.3 Gbyte Multi- function Re-writable Optical Disk Drive, HP Model
Number CORSAIR II, 4 each, installed in the Optical Jukebox prior to
shipment. 0005 One-year warranty, including on-site service (next day
response time) on the Optical Disk Drives installed in the Jukebox.
0006 Hewlett Packard Model Number HPPB SCSI-2 Host Adapter, 1 each (to
connect the optical jukebox to existing Government equipment - Hewlett
Packard 9000, Series 700, Model 750 UNIX wokstation). 0007 Tracer
Optical Software, 1 each (for existing Government equipment Hewlett
Packard 9000, Series 700, Model 750 UNIX Workstation). Distribution
media can be 8 millimeter tape, DAT tape, or CD ROM. Optical Software
shall be installed and integrated with the Optical Jukebox at NUWC
Detachment, New London, CT. 0008 One-year warranty and upgrade service
for Tracer Optical Software. SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS: --The storage
system must have a minimum capacity of 1 Tbytes in its fully-outfitted
configuration. --The storage media must be industry standard 5.25-inch
removable, re-writable magneto-optical, with a per-cartridge capacity
of 1.3 Gbytes. Optical disk space must be automatically recovered when
files are deleted. --The storage system must be a fully automatic
jukebox, with no direct action required by the user to exchange
required platters. --The cartridge exchange time must be no greater
than 5 seconds. --Effective data access time must be no greater than 19
milliseconds. --Data transfer Rate, burst mode, must be no smaller than
5.0 Mbytes/sec. Sustained rate must be no smaller than 2.0 Mbytes/sec.
--The jukebox must be capable of fully supporting the Government's
existing Oracle Relational Database Management System, which includes
a maximum data record size of 2 Gbytes. --The jukebox must be logically
viewed as a single device (all platters will be viewed collectively by
the operating system as a single disk drive). --The jukebox must
provide the capability for files to span across optical cartridges.
--The Jukebox must support a minimum of 16 read/write drives,
configured with a minimum of 4 drives installed with expansion
capability for additional drives. - -The jukebox must have built-in
redundancy, such that in the event of failure of a single component
(power supply, drive, or storage media platter) the storage system will
still remain functional. -- The jukebox must operate in the normal
office environment: 45-100 degrees F, 10-75% humidity, and 120 VAC
power. --The jukebox-to- host computer interface must be SCSI-2.
--Minimum acceptable reliability specifications are: 40,000 hours
mean-time-before- failure (MTBF), and 1,000,000
mean-swaps-before-failure (MSBF). -- On-site installation of both
hardware and driver software must be available. --On-site maintenance
of the jukebox and its internal drives must be available via a
commercial warranty or maintenance agreement. COMPATIBILITY
REQUIREMENTS: The storage system must be compatible with a Hewlett
Packard 9000, Series 700, Model 750 (TAC3) computer platform running
the HPUX 9.0.1 operating system. Long term utilization of the storage
system dictates that it also be compatible with at least one other
common commercially available UNIX platform. The data format written to
optical disk must be cross platform compatible. No reformatting or
re-writing of data files should be necessary to swap from the HP
platform to the other UNIX platform specified above. FOB Destination at
