CHEONG CHON, (202) 373-8416 The Government has a requirement for an
Automated Tape Handling System (Tape Silo) to be installed at the
Defense Intelligence Analysis Center (DIAC), Bolling AFB, Washington,
D.C. Equipment delivered under this contract shall meet the following
minimum characteristics: HARDWARE: a. Read/Write compatibility with
currently installed IBM 3480 and 3490E cartridge configuration. Must be
capable of reading from and writing to previously recorded 3480 and
3490E formats to include 18 track and 36 track with bidirectional
recording and IDRC data compaction. b. Must support a current library
of 14,000 tape cartridges and be expandable. c. A channel speed of 9.0
mbps or greater with native ESCON. d. Four native ESCON channels for
each of the currently installed IBM processors (two 3090-600J's and one
3090-400S) for a total of 12 ESCON channels. e. Minimum supportable
channel distance of six kilometers. f. In the event of robotics
failure, devices must be capable of being manually loaded by operations
personnel. g. Must be capable of operating in a ''Lights-out'' or
''gray-out'' environment where the system is controlled from a central
console location to include start-up/shut-down and problem
determination. h. The offeror should be prepared to propose tape
cartridge equipment that will create tape cartridges with a capacity up
to 10gb. This equipment may be an adjunct to or separated from the tape
system requested above. i. All hardware components must fit into an
area of approximately 1000 square feet. SOFTWARE: The System Software
required to make use of the equipment acquired under this contract
shall be provided and supported by the contractor. Software delivered
under this contract shall be compatible with the software listed below
and shall be upgradable to support newer or upgraded versions of the
listed software: a. IBM MVS/ESA JES 3 Version 3.1.3 Operating System
Software. b. IBM VM/XA SP 2.1 and IBM VM/ESA 2.2. Operating System
Software. c. DFS/SMS/MVS 1.1. d. VM/TAPE Version 4.3B. e. Computer
Associates' CA-ONE Version 5, Tape Management System (TMS). f. Computer
Associates' Security software product 'CA-ACF2' Version 5.2 (MVS and
