36 -- SECURITY MUTT SHREDDERS SOL BEP-95-68(N) POC Contact Brian K. Hieneman, Contract Specialist, 202/874-2084. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) intends to acquire Four (4) Security Mutt Shredders (shredders). The shredders shall be specifically designed to shred rag paper (Note: rag paper has several times the shear strength of wood pulp paper and currency ink is highly abrasive) into strips of 0.1375 inches maximum width (1/8 inch + 10%) (3.5 mm) by 8.0 inches (20.3 mm) long or less. Paper to be shredded may be printed on one or both sides. Paper to be shredded may be in either of two forms (1) Straps 6.21 inches (157.7 mm) by 2.4 inches (61 mm) by .5 inches (12.7 mm) thick bound by a paper band or (2) Sheets 12.42 X 20.0 inches (315.5 X 508 mm). Paper will be manually fed into the hopper of the shredders. The shredders shall have the capacity to shred 500 pounds (225 Kg) of paper per hour and shall be designed for 8 hours of continuous operation per day, 275 days per year as a minimum. A minimum 15 H.P. motor shall be provided. The cutting element shall be designed for a minimum life of 1000 hours of operation prior to resharpening and or replacement. The requirement will include an option quantity for recommended spare parts. The equipment is to be ready for factory acceptance testing within nine (9) months after contract award.
