Contracting Officer, (202) 219-6445. The U.S. Department of Labor's,
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) sponsors collection and production of
data from the National Longitudinal Surveys(NLS). Each of these
surveys has gathered information at multiple points in time on the
labor market experiences of five groups of American men and women:
Young Men who were 14-25 years old in 1968, Young women who were 14-25
years old in 1968, Older Men who were 45-60 years old in 1966, Mature
Women who were 30-45 years old in 1967, and Youth who were 14-22 years
old in 1979. In the early 1980's the Young Men and Older Men surveys
were discontinued. In 1995, the Young Women and Mature Women surveys
were combined into a single survey, which will be fielded on a biennial
cycle. The Youth survey was interviewed annually from 1979 through
1994. After 1994, the survey will continue on a biennial cycle. BLS
requires a contractor to manage these surveys. The contractor will
assist BLS with coordination with other Federal agencies, with other
NLS survey organizations, and with the use of the NLS by the research
community. The contractor shall design and develop questionnaires,
prepare OMB clearance documents, collect survey data, perform data
creation, cleaning, and documentation, perform data program and package
maintenance, prepare CD-ROMs for BLS and for public use, provide public
use services, and develop the data base. All requests for a copy of the
