COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 17,1995 PSA#1348U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Procurement Services Room S-5220,
200 Constitution Ave., N.W. Washington, D.C. 20210 R -- DATA ON PRICES AND QUANTITIES OF RETAIL PRODUCTS IDENTIFIED BY
UNIVERS AL PRODUCT CODE OR A SMILIAR IDENTIFIER-POTENTIAL SOURCES
SOUGHT SOL RFI T.N. 95-18 POC Leonard L. Bednar, Contract Negotiator,
(202) 219-6445 Phyllis R. McMeekin, Contracting Officer, (202)
219-6445. This is a market survey supporting the Bureau of Labor
Statistics (BLS) to locate qualified sources to provide scanner data on
prices and quantities of retail products identified by universal
product code or similar identifiers. This data needs to be for a sample
(or the universe) of retail outlets in most metropolitan markets in the
United States. For each outlet and time period, BLS is in need of a
record of the quantities of the products sold as well as the prices
paid (or the revenue received) for the product. In addition to the data
for each outlet, BLS is interested in obtaining aggregated scanner data
by outlet type (i.e., grocery stores, mass merchandisers, etc.). All of
the data needs to be machine readable and available monthly (although
weekly submissions would be preferable). In addition to the
aforementioned data, BLS is interested in the availability of software
marketed by vendors of the data that would make the data easier to use
for research and analytical purposes. Vendors who have the capability
of providing the data and software identified above are invited to
submit information on those capabilities (in original and five copies)
to the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Procurement Services, Room
S-5220, 200 Constitution Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210. The
information must be sent to the attention of Leonard L. Bednar, and it
must be received by him by 4:45 pm on June 5, 1995. After reviewing
the responses, BLS will determine whether it will issue a solicitation.
BLS has already received literature from A.C. Nielson and Information
Resources, Inc., and it is aware that those vendors have the software
needed by it. This notice does not commit the Government to pay vendors
any costs that they may incur in the preparation and submission of
their responses, and it does not commit the Government to issue a
solicitation document. All firms/organizations who submit responses
will be included in the distribution of any subsequent solicitation.
