information contact Melby.K8s/Pkocc/916-643-3795 The closing date of 03
Jul 95 is an approximation only. McClellan AFB is purchasing two (2)
4000 to 6000 lb capacity coreless induction melting furnaces with 1500
kilowatt to 2000 kilowatt power supplies each and automatic iron
pouring system. The iron melting and pouring furnace system shall be
required to melt gray and ductile iron and accurately pour metal by
weight into individual molds indexing through the pouring station for
automotive and Department of Defense castings. INDUCTION MELTING
FURNACE REQUIREMENTS: The coreless induction melting furnaces shall be
required to produce a total of 7500 deliverable pounds per hour
continuously. The furnaces must also be able to produce 12,500 pounds
of metal per hour for two (2) hours including total storage reserves of
metal (melters and holder described below) and at the end of the two
hour run, nearly all the metal must be consumed. Furnaces must
efficiently melt small quantities of metal ranging from 1500 to 3000
pounds. Furnaces shall have a stirring characteristic indicated by a
meniscus height to furnace diameter ration of 0.1 to 0.2. Furnaces
shall include appropriately sized transformers (12 KV primary) for each
melting system, one (1) common water system complete with pump stand
and cooling tower to cool two (2) melting furnaces, one (1)
pouring/holding furnace and one (1) additional government provided
combination box and swing coil furnace. Furnaces shall also have
individual hydraulic power supplies for each furnace, one (1) common
hydraulic furnace lining removal system, automatic furnace lining
sintering & cold start-up system. The furnace coils shall be protected
by a battery operated pump system which automatically activates upon
power failure. AUTOMATIC IRON POURING SYSTEM: The pouring system shall
receive iron from melting furnaces and accurately pour metal by weight
into individual molds indexing through the pouring station. Pour
weights shall range from approximately 30 pounds to 250 pounds per
mold. Pouring unit shall include load cell weighing system under pour
station conveyor coupled with pouring system controls. Pouring furnace
shall hold 6000 pounds of iron with a working capacity of 3000 pounds
of iron. Pouring from the unit shall be via an adjustable rotating
stopper rod metering system using a programmable and/or self-learning
programmable rate with feedback from the load cell weighing system.
Furnace shall be heated with coreless induction coil with 200 kilowatt
power supply and coupled to common water system for the melting
furnaces. Pouring furnace shall be capable of back tilting to
completely empty the furnace at the end of each production run. Pouring
furnace shall be mounted on indexing carriage with powered ''X'' and
''Y'' movement to allow for different pouring basin locations on the
molds and aborts beside the mold line. 1 ea Applicable to: CERP Program
