The National Science Foundation is soliciting support services for assistance in planning, promoting and conducting a series of 10 large conferences on Federal R&D for small high-tech firms with up to 500 employees, with emphasis on the small Business Innovation Research Program, to be held in government fiscal years 1996, 1997 and 1998. The conference are jointly sponsored by NSF and the Department of Defense in cooperation with all SBIR departments and agencies. Three of the conferences that will be held each year is the National SBIR/Federal High-Tech Conference in October, November and April. The additional conference is the national SBIR Commercialization Conference which will be held in May or June of 1997. The sites in 1996 will be Washington DC, Salt Lake City and Dallas for the National SBIR Conferneces. For 1997, the sites will be Washington DC, Anaheim and Orland for the National SBIR Conferences and Boston for the Commercialization Conference. In 1998, the sites will be Washington DC, PHoenix and Kansas City for the National SBIR conferences. The support services include organizing, promoting and managing the conferences. Each conference will include the participation of all 12 SBIR departments and agencies that together fund 98 percent of Federal R&D. Each conference is expected to attract 800-1200 attendees, depending on the location, mostly from small high-tech firms. Each National SBIR Conference will include about 20 large companies interested in collaborations with small high-tech firms, about 25 seminars in areas important to the performance of small high-tech companies and a few keynote speakers. Each National Commercialization Conference will be confined to SBIR awardees showing and demonstrating the technology resulting from their SBIR R&D projects to manufacturers, potential investors, and some Federal agency, laboratory, state and university attendees in trade show format. NSF will request proposals in response to an RFP from small business firms with experience in successfully promoting and conducting large conferences and trade shows focused on small high-tech companies, large industrials and government R&D or technology departments and agencies. A single award will cover all 10 conferences. The area of consideration is restricted to small business firms, Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code 7389-Business Services, (N.E.C.).
