285-7188. On or about Friday, May 19, 1995 the United States Postal
Service, Facilities Service Office, 6 Griffin Road North, Windsor, CT,
06006-0300, will issue Solicitation No. 082530-95-A-0070 to prequalify
general contractors for a multi-phased project at the Main Post Office,
24 Corliss Street, Providence, RI. Planned construction starting date
is approximately September 1, 1995 with completion no later than
November 20, 1995. The estimated cost of the work is between
$300,000.00 and $500,000.00. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR A PROPOSAL.
Primary factors for consideration for prequalification are 1. Project
Management: quality performance, safety program, project control,
ability to run phased project, quality management/control program and
performance, and work completed by the contractor's own forces; 2.(a)
Construction Experience: 10 years experience as a prime contractor;
having completed three projects of similar size and scope in the past
five years; Retail Postal Store experience preferred but not mandated;
(b) Subcontractor; certified and licensed asbestos containing material
subcontractor with five years experience in their field and have
completed multiple projects of similar size and scope in that time
frame; 3. Financial Stability: Be able to secure bonding capacity in
the amount required and financial references; 4. Organization and
management: staffing, workload, etc. Other factors to be considered are
MBE participation and commitment. Applications will be evaluated by a
USPS committee and all firms will be advised of their prequalification
status in writing no later than July 24, 1995. All forms must be
complete to be considered for prequalification. Offerors not completing
all forms will automatically be disqualified. There will be a meeting
to discuss the details of this prequalification on Wednesday, June 7,
1995 at 10:00 a.m. at 181 Corliss Street, Providence, RI. Attendance is
not mandatory but applicants are encouraged to attend this meeting.
Work includes but is not limited to renovation and alteration of the
existing 2,500 sf postal lobby to the U. S. Postal Service retail store
and lockbox area. The general contractor must have a certified and
licensed asbestos containing material subcontractor as part of their
team. Interested firms that meet the minimum criteria stated may obtain
a Prequalification Package at no cost by writing to Patricia Sullivan,
Facilities Service Office, 6 Griffin Road North, Windsor, CT,
06006-0300. Telephone and fax requests will not be honored. Completed
packages must be completed and returned to the Windsor address no later
