The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Purchase Branch Philadelphia, intends to purchase 14 each Total Base Number Meters, with an option for an additional quantity of 12 each. The Total Base Number Meter is intended to measure the total base number of a special diesel lubricant, in a semi-automated manner, aboard minesweeping ships in the U.S. Navy. Total Base Number (TBN) is a quantitative measure of the special additive package of chemical compounds, formulated at specific industry-recommended levels in the lubricant. The TBN is obtained by electronically sensing and evaluating a slight pressure increase resulting from a micro-computer controlled evolution of gas released from the chemical additives contained in the lubricant during a mixing process of the diesel engine oil and a non-toxic TBN reagent.
