The Defense Information Technology Contracting Office is seeking sources to design and implement two digital broadcast audio channels (one switchable from audio to 2400/1200 bit/s asynchronous data channel) within a 25 kHz INMARSAT channel(equipment only). This will replace the AFRTS single channel INMARSAT broadcast analog system with a digital solution. The first phase will test one digital transmitter for uplink at the COMSAT IMMARSAT earth station Santa Paula, CA and downlink to 12 digital receivers at various locations. The second phase will implement the full digital system consisting of four transmitters and up to 300 receivers. The digital receiver (audio/data) shall be equipped with a modular IF interface compatible with the Saturn 3890 and the Magnavox MX 2400 IMMARSAT-A and IMMARSAT-B terminals. Transmit frequency is fixed at 1357 MHz.
