transportation and supervision necessary to perform and complete
project No. SL-95-29-BK entitled ''Drinking Water Chiller Replacement''
at the DVA Medical Center, 800 Poly Place, Brooklyn, New York as
required by specifications and drawings. A) Replace one (1) drinking
water chiller (filtrine) unit supporting the north tower of Building
No. 1. Existing chiller unit is located in northeast basement of
Building No. 1. The chiller is to have the capacity to cool 240 GPH
from 80 degrees to 45 degrees. The cooling tank shall have storage
capacity of 160 gallons and shall be constructed of stainless steel and
tested for 125 # WP. Evaporator shall be mounted within the cooling
tank and shall be constructed of cper pipe with a minimum wall
thickness of .060''. The compressor is to be 7 1/2 HP field
serviceable, semithermetic, and supplied with water cooled condenser
and full controls for automatic operation including adjustable
thermostat, freeze control, refrigerant dehydrator, sight glass,
suction strainer, pump down solenoid valve, oil pressure switch and
thermostatic expansion valve. B) The pump is to be 1/2 HP, bronze
fitted, centrifugal type installed on rubber pads over a stainless
steel condensation tray. Piping is to include dial thermometer on
discharge line, manual bypass, valve, drain, air vent - all insulated
with molded fiberglass. Unit is to be housed in a rust proofed and tank
section to be insulated with at least 2'' of styrofoam. All controls
and components are to be accessible through easily removable access
panels. Chiller is to be wired for 208V 3 phase, charged with
referigerant, ready for installation, and ED by a full one year
manufacturers warranty on all components. The warranty shall cover
cooling tank, evaporator, circulating pumps, condensing units and all
electrical and refrigeration controls. C) Work is to include removal of
existing chiller unit and disposal from the site. D) Install new
chiller unit on existing concrete slab. repipe and reconnect to new
chiller unit. E) Install backflow preventer on emergency make-up water
line. F) Replace existing filter banks with new filter banks model 10
TMX. G) The filter shall have a rated capacity of 10 GPM. Filter is to
be equipped with cell to remove taste and odors. Cell shall be charged
with not less than 3 lbs of highly activated carbon for each G.P.M.
capacity. filter shall have separate replaceable element to remove
rust, silt and other suspended matter. Each unit is to be designed for
125 # WP and equipped with piping and backwash and bypass valves.
Provide 4 dozen spare filter elements. The filter sheet is rated at 5
microns (nominal). The external cell is to be shipped fully charged
with F-13 activated carbon ready for immediate use. H) Provide dual
pumps, dual compressors, complete redundency to insure chiller is never
out of service. I) Re-insulate pipe and label lines to the new chiller
units. J) The pump discharge pressure should be able to handle 17
floors. K) The new unit shall be M-160-RFCW manufactured by the
Filtrine Manufacturing Co. or approved equal. L) the chiller unit
dimensions must be 84''W X 26''D X 76''H. M) Remove all debris
generated by this project from the job site. N) Field verify all
dimensions and conditions prior to the start of work. O) Coordinate
work with the VA Engineer and A/C foreman. Standard Industrial
Classification Code is 1711, Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning.
Solicitation to issue O/A May 29, 1995. Bid opening O/A June 28, 1995.
Construction cost range is between $25,000 and $100,000. Completion
time for project is 75 calendar Days. All requests for Bid packages
