DynMcDermott Petroleum Operations Company (DM), prime contractor for the Department of Energy (DOE), Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) in New Orleans, LA is seeking potential sources to furnish all materials, tools, equipment, supplies, transportation, facilities, labor, supervision, and services required to develop a sealant formulation to repair storage well casing thread leaks and the appropriate engineering guidelines and methodology to place the sealant adajacent to the leaks(s). The casing thread leak rates are very low and are only clearly identified by nitrogen gas testing. Existing estimates of the candidate well leak rates range from 5 gal/day of oil up to 22 gal/day of brine. These are full wellbore leak rates that have multiple leak points. Conventional sealant systems such a ultra-fine cement and plastics are not suitable for this application.
