COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF may 25,1995 PSA#1354COMPUTER SOFTWARE AND NETWORKING TRADE MISSION TO TOKYO, JAPAN,
SEPTEMBER 25-27, 1995 The Office of Computers and Business Equipment
(OCBE) will sponsor a Computer Software and Networking Trade Mission to
Tokyo, Japan, September 25-27, 1995. This event will offer a limited
number of U.S. software and networking suppliers exposure to the
Japanese market through intensive market briefings by key players and
prearranged meetings with prospective partners in the Japanese computer
market. To maximize U.S. participants' exposure, this mission will
precede the World PC Expo `95. This mission is designed to introduce
companies to the dynamic, but complex, Japanese market. Japan
represents U.S. software suppliers' largest potential market, and
higher growth rates for packages software are expected in Japan than in
the U.S. or Europe. The packaged software market is predicted to
increase from $6.9 billion in 1993 to $13.8 billion in 1997. Finally,
the United States is Japan's largest foreign software supplier with 90
percent of the import market. The Japanese market for networking and
communications equipment is very promising for U.S. exporters.
According to International Data Corporation (IDC), Japan's network
hardware market generated $908 million in revenue in 1993, and is
expected to nearly double to $1.7 billion by 1997. Moreover, shipments
to Japan of network equipment are expected to quadruple from nearly
690,000 units in 1993 to approximately 3 million units in 1997 as
prices continue to fall. Companies that submit complete applications
and meet basic eligibility requirements will be accepted on a
first-come, first-served basis. All applications must be received by
Friday, July 14. The participation fee, which covers promotion of
participating companies and their products, briefings and other
informational materials, scheduling of meetings, and interpreting
services, is $3,995. To receive an application kit for this program,
