COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF may 26,1995 PSA#1355USDA, Food and Consumer Service, Contracts Management Branch, 3101 Park
Center Drive, Room 914, Alexandria, VA 22302 B -- GRANTS FOR INTERACTIVE NUTRITION EDUCATION AND PROMOTION
STRATEGIES SOL FCS 95-037SUZ DUE 052495 POC Suzanne A. Pastura,
703/305-2250/Contract Specialist, Elaine S. Lynn,
703/305-2250/Contracting Officer. The U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA), Food and Consumer Service (FCS), is sponsoring a competition
for grants to demonstrate and evaluate interactive nutrition education
and promotion strategies for Food Stamp Program participants and other
low-income people. Nutrition education and promotion is one of the
vehicles used to assist food stamp participants in achieving a healthy
diet. Traditional nutrition education strategies tend to be relatively
passive; that is, the recipient of the nutrition message is not
actively involved in the choice of content or delivery method of that
message. The proposed project will test approaches which allow people
to actively participate in learning. It will evaluate whether these
strategies are feasible for food assistance program participants,
whether they meet the users' needs and if the users feel the strategies
are effective. A total of $500,000 will be used to fund three to six
grants selected for award. No grant can exceed $200,000. FCS expects
most grants to fall between $50,000 and $100,000, unless a proposal(s)
is particularly compelling. The grants are intended to assist research
that can be completed in approximately two years from the point of
award. If you believe you have the requisite knowledge to perform the
above duties, please send a written request for the RFP to the address
in item 7. Four (4) self-addressed mailing labels must be included
with your request. Telephone inquiries and requests will not be
honored. (0144) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0015 19950525\B-0002.SOL)
