617-377-2195. Contractor is to provide all labor, tools,
transportation, materials necessary to purchase two (2) Ampex model DIS
120i Digital Recorder (or equal). The system shall be capable of
recording or reproducing data in either a bit serial, byte serial, or
SCSI-2 mode. The system shall also be capable of recording and
reproducing at any rate from 0 to 120 Mbps sustained, regardless of
mode, and achieve an average Bit Error Rate (BER) of one in 10 to the
12th power. The mode of acquisition shall not dictate the playback
mode. The system shall be capable of recording at least 3.0 hours at
120 Mbps on a single physical volume of DD-2 cartridge tape (160
GB/volume). The system shall also accomodate partitioning a physical
volume into multiple logical volumes. Each physical volume shall be
used to create a directory of the user data contained on the balance of
that physical volume. The actual content of the directory shall be
input by the user. The system shall be capable of searching recorded
data by file mark, block number, or time code (when recorded). The
search speed shall not be less than 300 ips (800 Mb/s). The system
shall provide for the dubbing of tapes (including time code searching
parameters) between like systems. Data shall flow directly between the
two (2) systems. The system shall be capable of being easily
incorporated in an automated cartridge-handling system which is capable
of managing multiple physical volumes without human intervention. The
system shall have RS-232 rear panel connectors to isolate causes of
problems and a front panel display to give status and error messages
during all modes of operation. Replacement of Record and Reproduce
heads shall be possible in the field by company trained project
personnel. The heads shall be warranted for at least 2000 operating
hours or 100 Terabits of data which ever comes first. Vendors who are
