M -- NOTICE OF INTENTION TO EXTEND AN EXISTING CONCESSION CONTRACT - MUIR WOODS NATIONAL MONUMENT POC Teresa Jackson (415) 744-3981. The National Park Service intends to extend the concession contract which will expire on December 31, 1995 at Muir Woods National Monument for a period of three years. This extension is necessary to allow the continuation of public services during the completion period of the planning documents for the park. The National Park Service will not renew this contract for an extended period until planning can be conducted to determine the future direction for concession services at Muir Woods National Monument. The necessary planning process is expected to begin shortly and will affect the future of the concession. The planning process is expected to take two to three years to complete. Until that planning process is completed, it will not be in the best interest of Muir Woods National Monument to enter into a long term concession contract. For these reasons, it is the intention of the National Park Service to extend the current contract for a period of three years beginning January 1, 1996. Benefits accruing to the government under this contract were renegotiated in 1994.
