COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 5,1995 PSA#1360U.S. ARMY ENGINEER WATERWAYS EXPERIMENT STATION TO HOST REMR FIELD
REVIEW GROUP MEETING The 1995 Field Review Group Meeting of the Repair,
Evaluation, Maintenance, and Rehabilitation (REMR) Research Program
will be held July 19-20, 1995, at the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways
Experiment Station, Vicksburg, MS. Representatives from all Corps of
Engineers districts and divisions are encouraged to attend. The general
sessions will be open to the public. During the meeting, ongoing work
units of the REMR Research Program will be reviewed, and new directions
will be addressed. Progress made in new starts approved during the 1994
REMR Field Review Group Meeting will be reported. The primary purpose
of the REMR Research Program is to develop technology aimed at adding
service years to the nation's aging hydraulic infrastructure. Almost
half of the Corps of Engineers' lock chambers along inland waterways
will soon exceed their design service life. Program research has
already yielded significant benefits to both the Corps and the private
sector in cost savings and extension of serviceability of existing
structures. Recent REMR projects have included development of
Core-LocTM, an innovative armor unit for repairing coastal breakwaters
and jetties; installation of precast concrete stay-in-place panels to
rehabilitate the lock chamber at Troy Lock in New York; improved
methods of de-icing lock walls; and guidelines for removing lead paint
from hydraulic structures. In partial fulfillment of its technology
transfer plan, the program provides for publication of The REMR
Bulletin, an information exchange newsletter; supplements to The REMR
Notebook, a compilation of technical notes and material data sheets;
and technical reports that document REMR research. The REMR Materials
Data Base offers on-line information about specific repair products,
and a bibliography of REMR products is available on the Internet
(http://www.wes.army.mil/cgi-bin/remr.wais.pl). For additional
information about the REMR meeting or REMR-developed technology, call
