Officer USSOCOM seeks sources capable of providing 358
Non-Developmental Items (NDI) Aircraft Wireless Intercom Systems (AWIS)
for special operations aircraft. A draft specification is available for
review upon written request to the above address. No telephone calls
requesting specifications will be accepted. Potential sources are
requested to send information describing the technical characteristics
of their systems and production/delivery capabilities by 5 Jul 95. A
draft Request for Proposal (RFP) should be available for comment by 31
Jul 95 and formal solicitation should occur by 5 Sep 95. USSOCOM
currently anticipates an expedited procurement schedule involving
product demonstrations and/or tests beginning 1 Nov 95. Final award is
expected by 1 Feb 96 with the delivery of all units as soon as
possible thereafter. The requirement calls for up to 358 AWIS with
associated training, spares and repair parts. AWIS must provide
wireless, hands-free and push-to-talk communications between
loadmasters and other crewmembers outside the aircraft, in a blacked
out environment, including communications with the aircraft
intercommunications system (ICS), or inside the aircraft during flight.
The Mobile Equipment (ME) unit must be as small as possible, and weigh
not more than 32 ounces. It must not interfere with aircrew members
survival or protective equipment, including headgear and vest, and must
not affect the performance of emergency equipment. It must interoperate
with standard Air Force and Army microphone/ear piece headset
connectors. The ME must have an integral battery with a life of at
least 8 hours. The Aircraft Interface Unit (AIU) must plug into an
aircraft 28 volt DC receptacle. AWIS shall be configured to operate in
a Division 1, Class 1, Group D hazardous environment, and be able to
