being circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif. 95.156.

be provided in addition, where applicable): Satellite distress beacons.
5. Title and number of pages of the notified document: AS/NZS
4280:1995, 406 MHz, Satellite Distress Beacons (available in English,
29 pages). 6. Description of content: This standard provides the
minimum requirements for Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons
(EPIRBs) and Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) operating with a carrier
frequency of 406.025 MHz. These requirements encompass the physical
requirements of the devices, as pertain to maritime and land use, and
the performance characteristics for reception through the COSPAS-SARSAT
satellite system. Characteristics are also included for the homing
transmitters incorporated in these devices. This standard does not
apply to Emergency Locating Transmitters (ELTs) used in aeronautical
operations. 7. Objective and rationale: This standard is intended for
use by equipment designers, manufacturers and suppliers to ensure
correct operation of the EPIRBs and PLBs and their compatibility with
COSPAS-SARSAT. 8. Relevant documents: The Radiocommunications Act 1992.
9. Proposed date of adoption and entry into force: July 1995. 10. Final
