COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 7,1995 PSA#1362US Army ARDEC, AMSTA-AR-PCW-A, Building 10, Picatinny Arsenal, New
Jersey 07806-5000 P -- DEMONSTRATION OF BOLT-IN/BOLT-OUT COMPATIBILITY OF XM194 GUN MO
UNT AND 52 CALIBER XM297 CANNON WITH M109A6 PALADIN SP HOWITZER SOL
DAAE30-95-R-0072 DUE 070395 POC Major Trent Ensley, email=tensley,
Contract Specialist, 201-724-7870; Gregory L. Gorman, Contracting
Officer, 201-724-3271. The Government requires a demonstrator vehicle
based upon the current M109A6 Self-Propelled Howitzer. The objective of
this incrementally funded contract would be to provide
''Bolt-in/Bolt-out'' compatibility of the XM194 Gun Mount and 52
caliber XM297 Cannon with the M109A6 PALADIN Self-Propelled Howitzer.
To successfully accomplish this objective, the contractor must be
capable of conducting trade-off studies, modeling analysis, engineering
design, fabrication, modification and integration of hardware into an
M109A6 demonstrator vehicle. This contract is anticipated for Sole
Source award to United Defense, Limited Partnership (UDLP) based on the
following rationale: a. UDLP is currently under contract to produce and
is in production of the M109A6 and has access to a current vendor base
to expedite purchase of hardware. b. UDLP has invested a significant
amount of Independent Research & Development (IR&D) funding into the
modeling and design of possible upgrades and modification of the M109A6
armament system. This effort included fabrication of a demonstration
vehicle which is currently being evaluated under the Battlelabs
Program. The modeling and design effort accomplished under this IR&D
program is highly similar and includes some of the enhancements which
are to be contracted. c. UDLP currently has a significant portion of
the existent M109A6 Technical Data Package in a Computer Aided Design
system. This will greatly enhance the ability of UDLP to provide a
timely and cost effective design. d. UDLP is intimately familiar with
the required interface concerns and design implications associated with
the Unicharge and solid propellent armament systems. See Note 22.
