COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 7,1995 PSA#1362NASA/FAA ADVANCED GENERAL AVIATION TRANSPORTATION EXPERIMENTS (AGATE)
TRAINING SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY WORK PACKAGE DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP POC NASA
Langley Research Center, Industry Assistance Office, Mail Stop 144,
Hampton, VA 23681-0001. The NASA General Aviation (GA) Element of the
Advanced Subsonic Technology Program will sponsor a technology
development program planning workshop on July 27, 1995. The purpose of
this workshop is to continue development of an
industry/university/government partnership for development of advanced
general aviation transportation system capabilities. The GA Program is
implemented through a public-private joint R&D venture under the
Advanced General Aviation Transport Experiments (AGATE) Alliance, Joint
Sponsored Research Agreement (JSRA) Terms and conditions. The goals of
the program are to dramatically improve the safety, affordability,
reliability, utility, ease-of-use, and environmental compatibility of
general aviation transportation aircraft. NASA will coordinate this
program in cooperation with other federal agencies and in partnership
with industry and universities to develop advanced concepts and
databases to support design guidelines, system standards, and
certification methods for small business and personal transportation
aircraft. This partnership will plan, develop, and conduct the AGATE
projects to integrate emerging navigation, displays, computer, digital
communications, flight and propulsion controls, training systems, and
surveillance technologies. A core of partners presently exists in the
AGATE Consortium. The planned workshop will define the AGATE
partnership with the training industries. The purpose of this workshop
includes establishment of the objectives of the AGATE Training
Technologies Work Package, and a task-based organizational structure.
Technology topics for discussion will include: (1) cockpit - based
onboard training systems, (2) computer-based training desktop devices,
(3) simulation (4) virtual environment systems (5) expert system.
Interested organizations should submit an expression of interest and a
statement of qualification, including: willingness to make cash and/or
in-kind contributions to the technology development effort (human

the development of general aviation training systems technologies,
related manufacturing and/or production capabilities, track record in
similar ventures, marketing organization (including resources and
capabilities to support this venture), and financial condition of the
firm. The deadline for response to this announcement is July 1, 1995,
