TELEPHONE, (317)353-3066 REQUEST FOR INFORMATION: The Navy is seeking
sources to provide information the the following preliminary technical
specification. Fleet maintenance philosophy for IFF interrogator and
transponder dicxtates the need for accept/reject flight line test
equipment to provide rapid indication of operational status of AIMS
Mark XII transponder equipment's; as well as, AIMS 65-1000 interrogator
equipment's. Thus, a requirment for a carrierdeck/flight lint
compatible test set, capable of either direct-connected or
radiated-path testing of Department of Defense (DOD) transponders and
interrogators, is required. Transponder and interrogation modes which
shall be checked by the test set should include, but are not limited
to, Mark XII modes 1, 2, 3/A, C, IFF mode 4 and mode S. The test set
shall have the capability to store test results and upload them to a PC
via an RS-232 interface. The test set shall have the capability to
store and zeroize encrypted data from a KIR and KIT COMSEC coputer or
similar device. The test set shall have the capability to measure both
transmitted power and the receiver sensitivity; as well as, the
ability to evaluate side lobe suppression performance of the
interrogator under test. Use of the test set shall allow for one man,
hand-held, directional operation; as well as, unattended continuous
''loop on'' test. The test set shall contain both automatic and
selectable input attenuation in order to represent various distances.
The interrogator test set shall allow for a variable reply range. The
test set shall incorporate a self-initiated power on or manually
initiated Built-In-Test for go/no go self confidence check.
Environmental requirements dictate that the item must be housed in
ruggedized Type A combination case. A detachable cover shall be
utilized to protect the controls and indicators, and also house the
accessory cables, couplers, and antenna assemblies. Operational
temperature range shall be -30 to 50 degrees C. Power for the test set
shall be obtained from either 50 to 400 Hz, 115V/230V AC external
power, and/or from internal DC batteries. The battery pack shall be one
currently available in DOD inventory, removable and chargeable both
internally and externally. Battery selection shall be in accordance
with (IAW) EPA regulations. Test weight requirments shall be no less
than 1000 hours Mean Tim Between Failures (MTBF) demonstrated.
Demonstrated test set alignment shall take place in no more than one
(1) hour utilizing equipment's already existing in DOD inventory. In
accordance with current DOD acquisition philosophy, it is preferable to
identify an item that is of a non-developmental nature as opposed to
pursuing a new design effort. It is planned that the first article
tests of preproduction unit will be performed three (3) months after
contract award. Please forward requested information and/or questions
to Mr. Jon A. Massey (2.1.5/MS-45/31JM), Naval Air Warfare Center
Aircraft Division, 6000 East 21st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219-2189.
