68 -- SODIUM IODIDE CRYSTAL ANNULUS SPIKED WITH THALLIUM SOL 52SBNB5C8785 DUE 072895 POC Sandra Febach (301) 975-6326 The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a requirement for a specially manufactured high purity sodium iodide (NaI) crystal annulus spiked with thallium (T1), hereafter designated as NaI(T1), designed for the following applications: i) high efficiency cosmic-ray and secondary gamma-ray detector (active shield) for background reduction of miniature- proportional and Geiger Muller radioactivity detectors for high precision measurements of radioactive nuclides and ii) Compton- suppression gamma spectroscopy using a High-Purity Germanium (Ge) detector (Ge detector is not a component of this procurement request) in coincidence with the NaI(T1) crystal capable of suppressing the Compton background count rate such that the peak- to-Compton ratio is 800:1 or better. The NaI(T1) annulus system and associated electronics shall be manufactured in strict accordance with specifications to be included with the Request for Proposals (RFP). Delivery will be required within six (6) months after contract award. It is anticipated that the type of contract will be firm-fixed-price.
