J -- CLEANOUT OF FOUR 20,000 GALLON RAIL ROAD TANK CARS IN THE 200 AREA DUE 071595. Contact Point/Bernard L. Ayers, Contracting Officer, 509/376-8601. The Department of Energy, Richland Operations Office at the Hanford Reservation in the State of Washington, is requesting expressions of interest from qualified firms to accelerate the cleanout of four rail road tank cars stored at the 200 East 204-AR TC4 rail spur. The four 20,000 gallon tank cars (10H-18579, 10H-18580, 10H-18581, and 10H-18582) have been used in the past to transport radioactive liquid waste from N Reactor, T-Plant, and the 340 Facility. Three of the tank cars are permanently stored there and have radioactive residue heels inside that contain high levels of radiation, approximately 13 Rads per hour. The tank cars radioactive heel tank contents will need to be removed to a volume less than .3 percent of the rail cars total capacity in accordance with the requirements of the State of Washington Dangerous Waste Regulations (WAC 173-303). The radioactive waste recovered from inside the tank rail cars will be disposed of at the Hanford Reservation. The rail cars will need to be decontaminated to levels which allow them to be ultimately dispositioned as low level waste. Companies with expertise in this area that are interested in this matter, and who desire to be considered for further discussion, are requested to submit expressions of interest with accompanying documentation relative to their qualifications and capabilities within 10 days of the publication of this notice.
