The Biological Response Modifiers Program (BRMP) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) laboratory and clinical investigators depend on the availability of adequate supplies of cytokines, growth factors, monoclonal antibodies and biological standards, most of which are not available from commercial sources. As part of its effort to provide this service to investigators, the Biological Resources Branch (BRB) of the Division of Cancer Treatment (DCT) has initiated the present request for proposals which deal with the collection, storage, and distribution of biological response modifiers produced or collected by the BRB. The availability of biological materials through this program activity provides an opportunity for individual investigators to test their working reagents against known reference standards. These reference reagents facilitate research funded by both government and private sector grants, including numerous projects of importance to the NCI. The availability of standardized materials at a minimal cost allows investigators to direct their efforts immediately to the substantive questions under investigation, thereby reducing the time and money required for preliminary work. Major tasks under this contract will include: (a) Receiving reagents shipped to the repository for storage and distribution; (b) receiving orders for materials by telephone and/or written requests; (c) retrieving correct materials from freezers, packaging materials appropriately for shipping, and making shipments to fill requests; (d) storing materials at proper tempatures; (e) maintaining current accurate inventories of reagents; and (f) obtaining proper assurance and release and indemnity forms from recipients of materials. RFP-NCI-CM-67240-44 will be issued on or about July 07, 1995. The Government anticipates (1) level-of-effort contract will be awarded on an incrementally funded basis for a period of five years.
