being circulated in accordance with Article 10.4. TBT/NOTIF.95.26. 1.

Mass-produced passenger cars up to nine seats and up to a total weight
of 3,500 kg. 5. Title and number of pages of the notified document:
Ordinance on the Reduction of Specific Fuel Consumption of Cars. 6.
Description of content: To reduce the fuel consumption of cars, a
target value is set. The target is to reduce the average specific fuel
consumption of new cars sold in Switzerland by at least 15 per cent
over the period 1996-2001. This target value is not equal to a
standard. Trade in cars will not be restricted. The ordinance
stipulates an appropriate system to monitor progress toward the
objective. 7. Objective and rationale: Economical and rational use of
energy. Target values are an essential part of Swiss Programme ``Energy
2000'' which aims, inter alia, at a stabilization of the fossil fuel
consumption by the year 2000 and a reduction thereafter. 8. Relevant
documents: This fuel consumption is measured according to the
directives 80/1268/EEC, 89/491/EEC and 93/116/EEC. 9. Proposed date of
adoption and entry into force: 1 October 1995. 10. Final date for
