Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) intends to negotiate a sole source
contract with the University of California-Santa Barbara (UCSB) for
the continuation of the following work at the Garner Valley Downhole
Seismographic Array (GVDSA) site in southern California: 1) Record
strong ground motion data from a shallow soil column site in a
seismically active area; 2) determine the attenuation characteristics
of the recorded data. Compare these characteristicswith those assumed
to predict the strong ground motion at the Garner Valley siteand 3)
assess the validity of the two competing hypotheses for the high
frequencyshape of earthquake ground motion spectra using the recorded
data. The period ofperformance is for three years with a one year
option year. Interested respondents should submit their written
capability statement to the address shownabove. Telephonic responses
will not be considered. Responses providing insufficient information
