MALAYSIA: CIGARETTES The following notification has been received in Gatt document TBT/Notification G/95.175 dated 7 June 1995. 1. Member to Agreement notifying: Malaysia. If applicable, name of local government involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2). 2. Agency responsible: Ministry of Health and Royal Customs and Excise Department. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2, 2.10.1, 5.6.2, 5.7.1, other. 4. Products covered (HS or CCCN where applicable: otherwise national tariff heading. ICS numbers may be provided in addition, where applicable): Cigarettes HS 2402.20.000 and 2402.90.200. 5. Title and number of pages of the Notified document: Food Act 1983, Control of Tobacco Product (Amendment) Regulation 1994 (2 pages). 6. Description of Content: Labelling requirement to indicate that tar and nicotine levels do not exceed the maximum allowable level and that smoking endangers health. The maximum allowable level for nicotine shall be 1.5 mg per cigarette and that for tar shall be 20 MG per cigarette. A cigarette container shall display the following statements ``Amaran Oleh Kerajaan Malaysia - Merokok Membahayakan Kesihatan''. ``Tidak Melebihi 20 Mg tar 1.5 Mg Nikotina''. 7. Objective and rationale: Protection of Human Health. 8. Relevant documents: Food Act 1983, Control of Tobacco Product Regulations 1993, Control of Tobacco Product Regulations 1994 (amendment). Customs (Prohibition of Import) Order 1988. 9. Proposed date of adoption and entry into force: The regulation came into force on 1 January 1995 but has not been fully implemented yet.
