CENTER, AMES, IOWA SOL 1375-3K15-95 DUE 082295 POC Contracting Officer,
Mike Thompson, 301-344-0298 Solicitation Notice - It is the intent of
the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service to
upgrade the 4160 electrical distribution and communication cabling
system at the National Animal Disease Center (NADC) in Ames, Iowa. The
NADC high-voltage distribution system runs underground through a
series of manholes. The system is generally duplexed (redundant but all
conductors share the same electrical manhole and duct system; which in
the event of a major short in one of the manholes it can disable both
electrical feeds to buildings or transformers. The major scope of work
for the upgrade under this project consists of (1) re-route the
electrical feeders separately through an existing communication manhole
system to provide a higher level of reliability; (2) install new high
voltage cables in the new route; (3) install multi-duct system and
communication cabling; (4) install sump pump at each existing
electrical manhole. The estimated cost of construction is between
$275,000 and $425,000. Solicitation packages will be available on or
