DESCRIPTION: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis under the authority of 41 USC 253(C)(1). The supplies and services required by the Agency are available from only one responsible source and no other supplier will satisfy the needs of the Agency. It is anticipated to negotiate with the sole manufacturer, Division Inc. 431 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 for a ProVision 100 VPX System. This will consist of a single pipe system, with a complete integrated UNIX platform with a 486 DX@/66 Mhz host System, VPX Graphics Sub System, dVISOR HMD, 6D Joystick, 4 Input Polhemus FASTRACK System, Non-Ferrous Peripheral Floor Stand, Consensys UNIX Software, Site Installation, Existing Database Demonstrations, dVS Runtime Software, dVISE High Level Interactive Authoring Software, dVS Developer's Toolkit C Library Low-Level Developer's Toolkit, A Model Converter and Optimization Tool, Nine-month Maintenance and Support Contract, a thirty-day testing period is required before payment is authorized. This is a sole source requirement because the Division's ProVision 100 VPX System is the only system that is compatible with every major manufacturer's equipment of Virtual Reality peripherals -- Interested offerors may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirements by submitting a capability statement. The capability statement must provide adequate information to allow evaluation of the System. erformance or delivery no later than 1 September 1995. All of the above must be provided for the Government to consider whether to open this requirement for competition. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all ''capability statements'' received within 45 days after the date of this publication in the Commerce Business Daily will be considered by the Government. A solicitation is not available.
