D -- VERIFICATION OF NATIONAL PROVIDER FILE (NPF) DATA POC DEBBIE STRITTMATTER, CONTRACT SPECIALIST, (410)786-5136. The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) is seeking qualified sources to verify the identification of health care providers for the National Provider System (NPS) for a period of one base year and two one year options. The primary goal of the NPS is to standardize and simplify the process of enumerating health care providers. It is estimated that over 1,000,000 providers will be enumerated. To help assure the uniqueness of the National Provider Identifier (NPI) assignments, HCFA is seeking to match NPF data to qualified source data. Online access to source data is desirable. If online access is not available, the source must submit data to HCFA, in a standard format, in the form of magnetic tape or magnetic cartridge, on a weekly basis. The source file must contain data on all physicians and graduates of international medical schools who are in the U.S. and meet education standards for primary recognition as physicians. Data for the source file must be obtained from primary providers of data such as medical schools, hospitals, medical societies, state licensing agencies or medical specialty boards. The source data will be used to help confirm the identity and credentials of health care providers by matching a combination of data elements found in both the NPF and the source file. These data elements include, but are not limited to, name, zip code, tax identificaiton number, date of birth, date of death, state(s) licensed, license number, specialties, medical school, and year of graduation. Interested sources are requested to submit two copies of written qualifications (including telephone number) to this procuring office within 30 calendar days from the date of the synopsis.
