The project consists of furnishing manpower, labor, equipment, materials, supplies, and supervision needed to accomplish repairing extensive cracking of the north and south dock areas. There is a limited amount of patching of spalled or chipped concrete surfaces. In addition, some spalled areas are deep enough to expose reinforcing bars, which area will require more extensive repairs. The drawings divide the two docks into three different sections, noted as base bid and bid alternates 1 and 2. The base bid is for all of the south dock, with bid alternate 1 for the eastern section of the north dock and bid alternate 2 for the western section. The construction period of 180 days is based on two significant factors. The first is that only one half bay at a time will be turned over to the contractor for repairs (see specification section 01110). The other factor is no work will be permitted during the period from November 17 through January 2, 1996, so that contract work will not interfere with the Christmas mail rush. By close of business on November 17, all the contractor's work must be complete in the half bay being worked, and all equipment and tools removed from the dock at the Processing and Distribution Center, 401 DFW Turnpike, Dallas, Texas.
