22041-3205 D -- DEFENSE INFORMATION SYSTEMS NETWORK (DISN) CONFERENCE POC
Contact: Peter Smingler, Contracting Officer, (703) 681-1235/Zevie
Gottlieb, Lieutenant Commander, USN, (703) 681-0329/0918 Synopsis
number 95182. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) announced
on 28 June, 1995 the release of a Defense Information System Network
(DISN) Request for Proposal (RFP) and three draft DISN RFPs. The RFPs
will be distributed to industry on 14 July 1995. The DISN Support
Services - Global, DISN Switch/Bandwidth Manager Services - CONUS, DISN
Transmission Services - CONUS, and DISN Video Services - Global will
represent DISA's first major step towards establishing a consolidated
worldwide enterprise level telecommunications infrastructure for the
Department of Defense (DOD). On 14 July 1995, DISA plans to host an
industry conference in St Louis, Missouri. The conference will address
details on DOD's joint operational requirements and DISN objectives.
The afternoon session of the conference will consist of a ''Questions
and Answers'' panel forum. The panel membership will include the
Program Manager, Contracting Officer, Team Leaders and senior advisory
personnel. Attendees will be able to develop and submit questions
during the conference, in writing, to be addressed by the panel. The
acquisitions, those listed herein and others yet to come, are built
upon requirements validated by the Joint Staff, CINCS, Services, and
agencies. The requirements, when awarded, will transform DOD's primary
information transfer system, the Defense Information System Network
(DISN) into a global network designed to seamlessly integrate global
information transport, accommodate emerging technologies and focus on
rapid reconfiguration to today's contingencies. DISN will provide a
very high degree of availability against Information Warfare threats.
The acquisition approach is also designed to support aggressive
technical insertion, such as a move to ATM. The RFPs are designed to
provide DOD with the most advanced, flexible information system
technology available in the market today and in the future. While the
specific acquisitions addressed herein focus on Continental United
States (CONUS) requirements, future acquisitions are being developed to
focus on meeting overseas and deployed force requirements. The
acquisitions will allow DOD to respond effectively to the fluid
environment that our warfighters face daily. The DISN Support Services
- Global (DSSG) is expected to provide DOD with support in such areas
as, but not limited to: engineering, installation, operations and
maintenance. This contract is expected to be awarded in the 2nd quarter
of 1996. The DISN Switch/Bandwidth Manager Services - CONUS (DSBMSC)
will establish switch and bandwidth manager services to support the
DISN Program. This contract is expected to be awarded in the 3rd
quarter of 1996. The DISN Transmission Services - CONUS (DTSC) is
intended to provide DISN the broadband backbone and access area
transmission. This contract is expected to be awarded in the 3rd
quarter of 1996. The DISN Video Services - Global (DVSG) will provide
DISN users with reservation based and dial-up video services, and is
expected to be awarded in the third quarter of 1996. Conference
reservations, for no more than two representatives per company, may be
made by contacting DISA, at (703) 681-0329/0918, Fax: (703)681-0342,
or Email: Gottliez@cc.ims.disa.mil. The conference will be held at the
Regal River Front Hotel, 200 S. 4th Street, St. Louis, Missouri,
63102, telephone number (314) 241-9500. As the number of rooms that
have been blocked for the conference are limited, participants are
encouraged to make early reservations. Reservations made no later than
July 10, 1995 will be guaranteed hotel rates of $74.00 for government
and $102.00 for Non-government attendees. (0180) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0020 19950630\D-0001.SOL)
