B -- CONDUCT A DEMONSTRATION AND PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION STUDY OF FIELD-PORTABLE SOIL ANALYSIS TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE DETECTION OF RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND RECOVERY ACT (RCRA) AND NON-RCRA HEAVY METALS. MSE, Inc. is a prime contractor to the U.S. Department of Energy under Prime Contract No. DE-AC22-88ID12735 and is responsible for operating the Western Environmental Technology Office (WETO) in Butte, Montana. MSE, Inc. has available a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the demonstration of technologies intended to detect RCRA and non-RCRA heavy metals in soils. MSE, Inc. is working jointly with Ames Laboratory under DOE's Characterization, Monitoring, and Sensor Technology Crosscutting Program and with the EPA's Consortium for Site Characterization Technology (CSCT). MSE, Inc. will choose technologies, select a test bed and conduct confirmatory laboratory analysis to verify test results of the field detection technologies selected for demonstration. MSE, Inc. will fund mobilization, the technology demonstration, and demobilization for a five day period for each chosen technology. All technology demonstrations will take place at the project test bed located on the Silver Bow Creek streamside tailings corridor in Montana. The corridor has approximately three to five million cubic yards of tailings located within and along Silver Bow Creek. The demonstrations will be performed in accordance with CSCT's Guidance Manual for the Preparation of Site Characterization Technology Demonstration Plans. Further information about the materials to be analyzed and the selection and evaluation criteria are detailed in the RFP. Technology demonstrations will take place during September and October, 1995 contingent upon weather and site accessibility. The project is open to all business concerns that have field-ready technologies for the determination of RCRA and non-RCRA heavy metals in soils.
