The Naval Research Laboratory intends to negotiate on an other than full and open competitive basis with Photonetics, Inc. for a tunable laser source to support the Naval Research Laboratory's fiber-optic sensor programs. The critical features of the tunable laser for the intended applications are wavelength range (1500nm to 1565nm), wavelength resolution (0.001nm), linewidth (100kHz), relatively intensity noise (150 dB/Hz), and continuous mode hop free operation over the entire wavelength range. Photonetics, Inc. is the only known source capable of providing a tunable laser that operates continuously over the entire wavelength tuning range completely free of mode-hopping. This feature is essential for its use in fiber-optic interferometric sensor systems.
