COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 12,1995 PSA#1386U.S. Railroad Retirement Board, Purchasing Division, Room 1230, 844
North Rush Street, Chicago, IL 60611 70 -- REENGINEERING SOFTWARE POC Mr. Donald C. Augustyn
(312/751-4535). The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board seeks information
about the availability of re-engineering software which satisfies the
following criteria: (a) It must isolate and extract selected COBOL
business functions from existing COBOL programs and then generate
independent programs from the extracted code. The resulting programs
should be syntactically correct COBOL programs. The extracted business
function code must include all of the data division and procedure
division code required by the business function and must include only
the code required by the business function. Business functions to be
extracted may be defined based on the processing necessary to produce
a specified output file, the processing required to process a given
type of input transaction, or the processing required to compute a
given data item. (b) It must provide industry standard program metrics
and function point counts for individual COBOL programs and for
applications as a whole. It must be able to maintain a history of
metric values for programs so that improvements in program quality can
be tracked over time. (c) It must provide COBOL program investigation
functionality that can reveal program structure, isolate functionally
related logic, identify data relationships including parent fields,
children, field redefinitions and aliases, identify unused data fields,
recursive logic and unexecutable logic, allow simulated program
execution, and allow browsing of logical execution paths. (d) It must
provide COBOL program editing functionability that includes automatic
syntax checking, dynamic access of data definitions, and intelligent
branching that allows automatic scrolling from PERFORM or GO TO
statements to the destination paragraph and back. (e) It must provide
testing functionability that includes subroutine testing without a
driver program, the modification of program logic during testing, and
support for IDMS DML statements. (f) It must be mainframe based and run
under MVS/ESA. (g) It must support IBM VS COBOL II, IDMS DML, and
PANVALET. (h) It must work under ISPF. (i) It must interface with IBM
COBOL Structuring Facility. Interested parties should submit hardcopy
literature describing the software product, pricing and General
Services Administration (GSA) contract number, if applicable. Also
requested is a statement of vendor qualifications, experience and
references concerning the described software. This is not a request for
proposals nor a request for software development. No solicitation
document exists. Responses should be submitted within 15 calendar days
of the publication of this notice. No telephone calls will be
accepted. Acknowledgement of submission receipt will not be made.
