The contractor shall provide 20 cartons of new DCRsi 1'' cartridge tapes with cobalt doped fe2o3 magnetic recording surface. The cartridge tapes shall include the following specifications: tape length 1725'' (526 meters); base film .60 mil (nominal) polyester; oxide coating thickness .20 mil (nominal); backcoat thickness .04 mil (nominal); tape width 1'' nominal .998'' + or - .002''; curvature .125'' per 48' of tape; magnetic layer material colbalt doped Fe2o3; retentivity (br, Gauss) 1000 + or - 10%; coercivity (Hci, Oersteds) 700 + or - 10%; erasure field 2000 for 60 dB minimum erasure; orientation Transverse; RF output 0 + or - 1.5dB; uniformity, long and short term (46.7 kbit/inch signal) 2.0 dB maximum; raw average BER (46.7 kbit/inch signal) less than or equal to 3.0 by 10 to the fifth power; total erros with ECC on less than or equal to 1100; surface resistivity 1 x 10 to the eighth power ohms/square maximum; certification/testing: tapes shall be sample tested for conformance to performance specifications. Cartridge tapes shall be compatible with existing Ampex DCRsi drives. The testing will be done on standard Ampex DCRsi tape drives. Based on information available at this time, and in accordance with 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), implemented by FAR 6.302-1, the Government considers the item specified as a sole source from AMPEX DATA SYSTEMS CORP., Redwood City, California and proposes to negotiate a contract with that firm on that basis. However, should additional sources be identified, they will be considered. Firms who feel that they can furnish the required item or its functional equivalent (based upon the criteria specified herein) are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement. An affirmative response would include literature, brochures and such other materials which correspond to the required item stated herein. This information will be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no request for quotation document exists, requests for such documents without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to this request without further consideration.
